For 1975, everything under 6200# required cat converters which required
unleaded fuel to meet emissions requirements and nobody wanted that.
Therefore, most trucks suddenly grew to a 6200# GVW. This included the
other manufacturers--the F-100 became the F-150, the C-10 became the
C-15, etc. There were some changes made, like heavier springs that could
actually handle 6200# in some cases, but I think it was mostly a paper
rating thing. That's when and why the Scout XLC--Xtra Load Capacity came
along.
