At your 4,000 RPM redline, your 304 is sucking about 350 CFM of air, IF
it had 100% volumetric efficiency, which I gaurantee it does not.

Moral: Don't worry the 350 CFM is "just right" for your Scout. It isn't
too big, it's not too small. You'll get better performance and fuel
mileage than if you had gone with the 500 - better velocity.
