Re: Electric powered vehicles

	Just a fact I remembered:

Most of the enormous dump trucks and wheel loaders used in heavy, heavy
construction and mining use electric motors in the axles to get around. Of
course the power is generated on board by an enormous diesel engine.
Caterpillars biggest truck, (the 793 I think) has a 16 cylinder diesel
motor running a generator plus a lot of hydraulics as well. I'm thinking
that some other companies like Komatsu and others are running trucks
completely electric though. The reason for the electric drivetrain was
mentioned by someone earlier; Electric motors can put out a lot more
torque and offer a bit more braking control too which is important when
your driving a 240 ton haul truck ( you could run over a row of chevys and
not even notice, especially since the operator/drivers cab is almost three
stories in the air)
