[ihc] Update: Pete's Choking!
HI All,
Thanks to all of you for all of the hints, tips, etc. I think I've got
enough info to run with. Glad you all know me so well... Analyze to death,
then act! %^} I found this Bbulletin Thread very useful as well:
http://www.binderbulletin.org/forums/showthread.php?p=97377
I particularly appreciated Doug Shailor's contributions to the thread.
The underlying theme seems to be that there is more than one (at least 2 or
3) different kits that might work. I positively ID'd my carb thus:
R 7309 A
465663 C 91 (I believe that's the all critical "list" #).
Interesting note: Naturally, I'd prefer an OEM rebuild kit. I called
AutoZone and they advise that the Holley rebuild kit #3-887 "...is a good
part # but discontinued". Meaning the syntax was good and it was in their
system, but discontinued. I called Holley to quiz them. They said it's
still a current production kit, and didn't know what the deal with the Zone
was. So I called Jeg's, they say it'd be a "special order item" (that kills
the "I'll Fed-Ex it and have it in the a.m.!" notion). O'Reilly's said the
same thing. No one could promise it in my hand within a minimum of 3-4
days. Perhaps a week or two! Not good 'nuff for my daily driver! So now I'm
thinking the Holley tech may've been slightly 'misinformed' about the real
world availability.
So, I swallowed hard and ordered the NAPA 2-5785 (Thanks, Tom H.!!). Local
NAPA will have it first thing in the a.m. I had to order the Fel-Pro 60677
from O'Reilly's. They'll have that in the morning as well. I hear average
re-build time is about 10 hours - counting removal, cleaning, rebuilding,
reinstall and tweaking. Does that sound right? At least I'll get it started
tomorrow. Should be finished sometime Sunday for sure! ;-) Many-a-honey-do
& social engagement in-between, I'll wager!
Is it possible to rebuild this with only the instructions that come with it?
I have no IHC docs. If someone could scan any specs from a manual for me,
I'd be eternally grateful! '77 Scout II, V304. Carb is:
7 09 A
R7309
465663 C91
0107
Please e-mail to: binder AT pferris DOT com
Wish me well... I'll post again if/when it's done OR if I get stuck -
whichever happens first! ;-)
Cheers,
--Pete
P.S.: One good thing to come out of this, I forgot what a great rsource the
BBulletin is! The last several times I'd tried the site, they had various
probs, not limited to not being able to actually subscribe online. Now
that's do-able via PayPal, etc. So I signed up. Can't beat it for $20. Prob
be a day or two for the PayPal stuff to process, etc. But I think it's a
great resource once again.
