Some of the California Mother Lode towns such as Sutter Creek and my
hometown of Murphys, have become tourist magnets with every downtown
building being an art gallery, antique store, or the like. Turning
Jim's parking spaces into parking lanes, but filling those lanes with
Hummers, Expeditions, Excursions, and the like means that the roadway
is too narrow for 2 lanes of traffic when trucks or RV's are in those
lanes.
Somebody suggested the Murphys make one side of the street "No Parking"
so that the roadway could be widened. Guess how far that idea went with
the owners of the new gold producing businesses?
When I go through town pulling my vacation trailer, I try not to look
at my right side rear mirror, as it's too scary for me to deal with. I
concentrate on the vehicles coming toward me, a foot or two over the
center line.
