California is doomed. That's why I left...

But CA is not alone. Here's a story about a kid getting arrested for jumping

If you spend ten minutes searching for stuff like this, you will find
hundreds and hundreds of news items, describing ridiculous laws and their
impact on otherwise innocent people. We've all heard the ones about burglars
who are injured while breaking into private property, winning compensation
damages against the property owner. And the "zero tolerance" stories about
school children getting expelled for pointing fish sticks or fingers while
saying "pow pow". Based on Steve's examples above, there will no doubt be
cases of people being cited (or worse) for "forcing a pet to do something
against its will" and "patting a friend on the shoulder in class". Maybe
we're all doomed...

Here in my town, the city council passed a law banning smoking in public
parks. But what happened next was that a huge segment of the population,
both smokers and non, were outraged, and very vocal, and didn't stop their
protest until the law was rescinded. I don't imagine any of those council
members who passed the ordinance will be serving another term, either.

That's what it takes, I think. Regular folks getting mad, and active, and
very vocal. In the months and years ahead, we'll be needing to do more and
more of that to keep our rigs on the road, and to be able to continue taking
them off-road. Our trucks are "too heavy" and "not fuel efficient", etc.
etc... The lawmakers have already started, and things will get worse. We
will all need to yell, and loud.
