Hofs,
It was my impression that Optima, Odyssey and other AGM (Absorbed
Glass Mat batteries) as well as true gel-cell batteries are not supposed to
be 'overcharged' or charged to a point where the might boil so that they do
not damage the internals. A wet cell lead acid battery can usually accept
an overcharging because the water/acid mix serves to act as a heat sink on
so much of the surface, but the AGM and Gel batteries can't move the fluid
fast enough to cool the spot internally where they start to boil. So, lead
acids, overcharging is okay, but AGM and Gel, not okay?

Joel,

I guess you got a charge out of this discussion.

I'm nearly positive that you are correct, and I asked the Odyssey question facetiously. Odyssey calls their battery a "Dry Cell". Is it an AGM battery, and I don't ask this question facetiously?

Maybe I better go look.
