Re: [ihc] Cooling fans...
Well, having bought the clutch and fan, I went to install them... no big
deal, right?
First bolt was a bit snug, but once I got it going came out fine... second
bolt, couldn't get it to budge. Put some PB Blaster on it... still couldn't
get it to budge. Kept trying, eventually it started turning, but was so
hard to turn it was about like when you strip the head off... was turning
the pulleys and everything (with a 1/2" wrench, it's hard to get much
leverage too!). Finally got it out and the end of it is damaged. Bad
enough that I can't even get my die over it (not like I'd reuse it even if
I could though).
This was the bolts holding the clutch to the pulley... so I need new bolts
for that. Couldn't find that length at any hardware store that was open
(trying another one tomorrow, last ditch though). I did run my tap through
the holes to clean up the threads and it does appear that the holes go
really deep at least, so I can use longer, availible, bolts, but put off
getting them since I need new fan bolts too.
Now to the fan bolts... I did manage to get one of them out, took some
effort.... problem is, they aren't the right length! The pump specs a
length for the bolts to be used, which is fine and dandy, but that length is
shorter than the stock ones. From putting one in by hand, it looks like the
stock ones will bottom out before tightening the fan down. And these are
the ones that, since I couldn't find today, I really need to find tomorrow.
I'm considering some washers if it comes to it, but I'd really rather not
use extra washers to make it work with this component...
Opinions?
