Re: [ihc] Pertinent tool numbers
Rocky; IIRC on my previous 70 1200D the Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear took
the same socket. I was short of $ so I made one out of a piece of tubing,
an old worn out socket, a small steel plate, and about 10"s of 1/4' square
stock. I drilled a hole in the flat plate and welded the socket in it.
Then chucked the socket into the lathe and trued the o.d. of the plate to
fit the tube, and welded that together. Next step was to form the square
stock around the hex nut. Using an oxy-acetylene torch, I heated the inside
of the bar at the bend point and formed the square stock around the nut.
after it cooled and had shrunk to normal, I welded the ends together, then
welded it to the other end of the tube. Then turned the assembly in the
lathe in order for it to fit inside the hub. It seems like it also fits the
D70 (FA52) and the (RA15 ) on my 1310 '72'. Sorry no part #'s Jim A.

Subject: [ihc] Pertinent tool numbers
> Has anyone copiled a list of the part numbers of the spindle nut sockets
needed to work on our trucks? A while back I ordered, through Car Quest,
what I thought was the right socket to work on a 3/4 ton 44 front. I think
it was 2.5". When it came in, it wouldn't fit. I ended up using the old
hammer and chisel method to tighten them back. Now I'm working on a 70 front
and it has the same style nut except 2.75". Does anyone have the correct
Snap On, Mac, Proto etc. numbers for these sockets? What about the nuts on a
3/4 D60 rear? Are they the same as a 70?
