I have a rather expensive auto-darkening mask, and I can't use it. I'm
so conditioned to avoiding a flash that when I start the arc with the
non-darkened plate, my eyelids close, and stay closed until I break the
arc.
Sounds pretty stupid, but I can't bring myself to keep my eyes open
long enough to see if the mask is really working. Interesting too, that
these masks (at least my mask) by design, will not darken when looking
toward the sun, so you can't test a mask this way. I called the factory
rep to get this information.
