Dave,

Set your mind to it and you can do it.

BUT... just to complicate things... didn't you start a few days ago by
saying that your mechanic couldn't get a manual choke working on your
current carb?  Rather than taking on the task of swapping carbs and
fabricating a tranny kickdown bracket / linkage, wouldn't it be easier
and cheaper to fabricate a manual choke bracket for your current carb? 
If the first mechanic couldn't figure it out, try it yourself or try a
different mechanic.

Just thinking it sounds like less work and a ton less money.  Oh, and
less chance of ending up with a truck that doesn't work Monday morning
;)
