Re: [ihc] Brake Questions-Scout Diesel Hybrid

---... or after you bled the one side, the proportioning-or-combination
valve blocked off the rear. You should remove the switch from the center and
apply full brake pressure as an attempt to reset the switch. If you note any
fluid inside the prop valve where the switch mounts, either rebuild the prop
valve or replace it. That would mean that the o-rings were bad in the valve.

---It could also be that the rear flexible line is collapsing. Remove the
switch first and try bleeding again. Don't allow the brake pedal to go to
the floor either. Also remove the bleeder fitting and make sure there is not
rust plugging the bores. If there is, you can plug it with a piece of
plugged vacuum hose and get down to the parts store to get two new fittings.
I don't remember if the bleeder fittings on the calipers are the same size
or not.

---FWIW, when manually bleeding brakes, I prefer to use the hose-in-bottle
method. It makes air bubbles more visible when they come out of the hose and
enter the brake fluid in a jar. What you do is put about 1" of fluid in a
clear bottle/jar, remove the bleeder fitting and lightly coat the THREADS
(only) with grease, install the bleeder fitting and place a piece of clear
PVC or poly hose on the end of the fitting. Run the hose down and into the
fluid in the bottle/jar. Bleed the brakes like you normally do, only now you
will see air bubbles through new eyes. Even the tiniest air bubble is hard
to miss this way.
