[ihc] Re: New Topic/I'm your huckleberry!
I have one of those heat exchangers. I pulled it off of a pre-1970 TravelAll about 8 years ago and hot tanked it and put it in a bag, thinking I would use it one one of my rigs. I would have to look and see if it has an IH logo on it, but I seem to remember it does. It looks rather expensive to reproduce exactly (part of it is made of cast-iron), but I would think a person could duplicate it in terms of function without a lot of effort, using a standard plate-type heat exchanger. I am a rep for a company that makes the plate-type, if anyone wanted to explore this avenue. A stainless steel exchanger should be in the $75 to $200 range. -Colin Rush[ihc] New Topic!
I hesitate to wedge another topic in there for fear of it getting lost amongst
the RA15/RA20 and PTO threads but here goes anyway...
There is a thread on BB web TechTalk concerning the BW automatic transmission
"temperature equalization" system used on some IH's. It uses some
sort of heat exchanger that uses water from the engine and is connected by
heater hoses from the trans to the water pump.
We're wondering if anyone who may not be on the web version might have some more
insight as to whether this system was a dealer add-on or if trucks and Scouts
came factory equipped like this.
Here's the link to the thread:
