With a tired 345 2bbl, 4spd, 4.30 gears, and 235/85-16s, loaded to
14,500lbs my Travelette managed between 9 and 9.5mpg to RMIHR and back
last year, at ~60mph. (LOTS of hills to mountains to climb, and not
enough flats.. :D )

This year, I built a "hot-rod" 392.. 14-15k lbs again.. maybe more (didn't
scale it, but had a heavier Scout on the trailer, and hauled my 392 in the
bed on the way home).

The built 392 managed closer to 10mpg at 70-75mph. The stock 392 I
swapped in before heading home managed 9-10mpg at 70-75mph as well.

This is a '74 Travelette long-box (21' long, 6,000lbs empty), pulling a
16' trailer with a '68 V8 800 on the deck, plus my usual assortment of
tools and spare parts and other junk.

75mph is 3500rpm.

Both 392s were running an Edelbrock 1405 4bbl.

I still have headers to bolt on and it needs a new exhaust after the trip
- the old stock muffler burst. :D
