Are you referring to the float bowl (rectangular box on front of carb) and
needle and seat?

The needle and seat screws into the top of the float bowl and is used to
adjust the float level. The float bowl will strip if someone has replaced
the needle and seat with an after-market part (threads are different than
genuine Holly). The other leak point on float bowls is the sight plug on
the side of the bowl used for checking the float level.

I picked up a new genuine Holly float bowl, float, needle and seat, sight
plug, bowl gasket, and 4 bowl screw gaskets for my 71 Travelall (345 2bbl)
at a speed shop for about $45. Kind of spendy but it fixed my gas leak
problem and I didn't have to replace the whole carb. If you do this make
sure you get a bowl for side hung floats. Many performance carbs have
center hung (cathedral) floats and the bowl is different.

If the vents or air cleaner stud are the source of the leak, then maybe you
could expoxy them and seal the leak??????

Anyone know of a good source for a new 2bbl Holly with side hung floats?
All I've ever found is the 500 CFM center hung universal 2bbl. To me that
seems to be too much carb for a 304 and probablly too much for a 345.
