Hot Start

David,
A quick cheap way around the Delco Hot Start problem often is the
installation of a Ford Solenoid on the firewall. Even just using it as
a relay supplying power to the Delco solenoid usually takes care of
the problem. I won't do into the Perkins diesel story again, but it is
with these engines most of the data as to the success of the solenoid
used as just a relay was gathered at our end.

It was not my intention to tell you that my idea supplants Ken's idea.
It seems to me that the combo of the "better" Delco with the Ford
solenoid easing the strain on the key operated switch by greatly
reducing the amperage passing through it, is an ideal solution. There
is a more elaborate use of the Ford solenoid described in the FAQ, and
thanks to Rik, I could send you a diagram of that wiring, but the
simpler relay use usually gives good results.

< Wow David,

< Rag joint or steering box could cause sloppy steering. Is it
lifted? If

< BTW, I've had great luck with a delco starter with the heftier
spring. I

I think
