How's this hard top storage idea sound:

Bolt a 1/2" plywood board to the bottom of the top.  Create some simple
structure to "build-up" the front so that it can bolt to the windshield part
of the top.

I think that would maintain its shape.  Now, I will probably just need to
find a spot for it...

I might go the route of a temporary bikini top, and see about extending the
solid part to cover some of the back seat.  It's just kids back there, so
the extra-short roof affect shouldn't matter.
