John,

  Don't know anything know about the Crosley, but Chevrolet had a brazed
motor.   Air-cooled I believe.   The downfall of the Chev motor was they
couldn't keep the brazed copper cooling fins onto the cylinders given the
brazing technology of the times ('20's, 30's?).
