Oregon Introduces Bill to Take Pre-1981 Cars Off the Road 

A bill (H.B. 3217) has been introduced in the Oregon legislature by
State Representative Richard Devlin that would unfairly prohibit the
registration of totaled vehicles manufactured before 1981. Beginning
Jan. 1, 2010, the bill would prohibit the registration of all motor
vehicles manufactured before 1981. The bill allows the registration of
antique or special interest vehicles or vehicles that have passed
unspecified emissions standards. 
We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators to Oppose H.B. 3217

H.B. 3217 ignores that fact that pre-1981 vehicles are generally
well-maintained and have a minimal environmental impact. 
H.B. 3217 ignores the fact that pre-1981 vehicles constitute a small
portion of the vehicle fleet and are infrequently operated. 

H.B. 3217 would force pre-1981 vehicles to undergo emissions tests at a
time when many states are completely exempting older vehicles from such
tests.
