I agree with Dan... the 304 is an excellent in engine. It's just the least
powerful of the "Big 3" (304/345/392).

Excellent source... that's where I bought my rebuild parts.

No need to go to a second source... just drop the oil pump from the rebuild
kit as Dan suggested, but have Northern replace it with a Federal-Mogul oil
pump rebuild kit part number 224-51187 for $30.65. As far as I can tell, this
rebuild kit does any IH oil pump used in 152/196/304/345/392, but be sure to
ask.

If you intend to tow a heavy trailer with big tires and high axle gearing, you
might not want a 304, but otherwise it's an all around good engine... best for
good gas milage.
