Water in automatic Trans

Tom,

        I've heard (And keep hearing) that a 727 or almost any other BIG 
Automatic will boil off water in no time flat at temperature. The fluid (I'm 
told) reaches temps of up to 250-300F so water is vaporized and released through
the front vent.  The Torque convertor is one of the hottest places.  Most 
usually have a drain as well.

        I too have seen the TQC drain technique you mention, but you can find 
TQCs with a drain for $50, new from Hughes Convertors.

        Mine seems to be running ok, and I'm having trouble diagnosing my tranny
problems from my carb problems.  Too many systems down right now.

        I'm not going to be able to bring all the crap I planned on because I 
have to camp in that back.  I can still get your windows Tom, but the rest will

I watched a tranny shop do just that to my Uncle's van when servicing the
trans. They drained the torque convertor by unhooking the lines from the
radiator - and get this - and then they started the engine and put the
trans in gear!

I haven't seen it done since and other folks have told me that this was 1)
Uneccessary and, 2) dangerous to the transmissions longevity.

But you know, if you got water in the trans fluid, then it's in the torque
convertor too. And, you need to get it all out. Perhaps going as far as
removing trans for draining/cleaning and draining the torque converter and
the lines to the radiator as well.
