John L.  You're so right.

My problems were solved basically by the new Mallory distributor.  The MSD
has some nice features and I think improves the gas mileage.  BUT!  I
can't prove it.  I replaced the whole schmear at once so I really don't
know.  

But the new dist solved the problem.  

The MSD box died once so I quickly switched over to a points system.  Ran
fine.  Not quite as strong but certainly nothing like it was before the
new dist.
