Plug Gap

IH All,
Has anyone tried a wider plug gap on their 345 engine with the prestolite
distributor? The reason I ask is that when I purchased my 79 Scout a couple
of years ago, the plugs were gapped way too much, but it seemed to run
fine. Of course, when I tuned it up the first time, I gapped the plugs to
specs. Would there be any benefit to running a wider gap with the stock
set-up?
