304 and 345 crank journals are the same but the strokes are vastly different
(304-3 7\32, 345 3 21/32)  in length.   a 345 crank in a 304 would probably
cause the pistons to hit the heads.
from a 1980 Scout II manual
............Hp...............torque
304  122.3..............226.3.... @3600
345   150.................265.......@3600
Thats the facts but the a 304  having a shorter stroke has the ABILITY to
rev higher
