Drilling leaf springs - don't be afraid
Just wanted to pass along some feedback on drilling
leaf springs. I redrilled the center-pin holes in my
main leaves to move the rear axle back one inch - it
was no problem at all. I used:
Cobalt steel drill bit (3/8" - for one-size-larger center-pin)
Drill press on slowest speed (about 200 RPM)
Moderate pressure
Lots of cutting fluid
Took maybe 2 minutes per hole. The shavings came out in
nice long corkscrews. So if you want to move the axle by
modifying your spring perches, feel free - but redrilling
the main leaves is a pretty easy option too.
Later,
Curt
