1210 2WD to 4WD conversion

Allen-

I posted some ramblings on this topic earlier, and noone seemed to
respond, so I shall go straight to the source. I have narrowed my
choices of what to attain next down to a '73 Long Bed Crew Cab Pick Up,
or another '68 Travelall that I found complete and ready to go. The
Travelall is 4x4, a biggie to me, whereas the PU is not. However, the
PU is a 1210 with an I-beam front axle. After checking out the
conversion of my WagonMaster 100, and looking at your page, considering
my inexperience in major projects, and my limited time in which to do
it, I think I shall stay away from my prior wishes to convert this beast
to a 4x4. However, the '73 PU with the solid front axle is one of the
"bolt-in" conversions, as I understand it. Therefore, it is reported to
be considerably easier, and require no re-working of mount/spring
locations, etc. Does this sound true to you? And do you know if the
axles off of my '68 T'all would be feasible on my '73 conversion? If I
could use these axles, as well as TC, my costs would be covered for
parts for the most part. I was underneath one of the vehicles today and
measured the distance from inner drum wall to inner drum wall. Is this
the most vital measurement that I would need to take? It seems to me
this would be of major import. I think the spring perch distance may be
different on the new to old body style from what I heard somewhere along
the line, but figure this would be an easy change for a good welder.
Any other input on this?
Also, right now I am making the measurements based on my '74
WagonMaster. Are these the same width as a PU truck? I am assuming so,
as I believe I have been told that the front end parts are
interchangable.
Anyone else have any more input on this? I don't mean to disregard any
prior information, but the only response I recall was more of a
"conjectural" nature, saying, "I don't see why you couldn't use the
older parts under the newer truck." Nothing personal, but if this
knowledge is available, I would prefer not being the one to answer the
question, "Why not?"

Thanks to Everyone.
