Eric, 

Although I have nothing against 350's (I'm putting one in my S-10) I agree
with Ken Farmer about trying to find a used IH engine.  My Scout had a 345
that needed some block work that I couldn't afford to do so I ended up
finding a used 304 with 82,000 miles for $100.  I purchased it "as-is" but
it ended up being a good engine that so far has survived 3 days of trail
riding last spring.
