This is an IHC garage post in case you digesters wonder:
Many of the fluorescent fixtures offered for sale in the last 20 years, have
sold for very cheap prices and that is because they are very cheaply made
with printed circuit boards and such (don't really know what else) instead
of the traditional ballasts and heavy duty stuff. The result is that they
buzz and flicker when cold and lamps have a much shortened life. The high
quality fixtures are still available and lamps last for decades in those
fixtures and they come right on and don't buzz and flicker. 
Maybe Dan N. or somebody else can help with a brand name, but American Lamp
or something like that comes to mind. I buy my good fixtures from a local
dealer and just ask him for the good fixtures, but American is at least part
of their brand name.

So John:

I guess that's sort of like when it's cold here in California. Sometimes,
when it gets below 45 or 50 and I go in the garage, my flourescent lamps
won't come fully on when I turn them on. Guess I need to insulate my
garage, huh??????????? :-)
