Fuel pump change

Hi, guys.

I determined that the scout I'm buying has a bad fuel pump (changed the
filter, no good, pulled the line, nothing).  now the cost isn't
prohibitive, but it's not in an easy place to access.  the parts store
doesn't list one with vaccum attachments, so I assume my wipers are
electric (79 model)  is there any reason why an electric fuel pump would
not work instead of the mechanical unit?

also, this truck is on a hill, could I temporarly install the pump and
leave the old mechanical pump in until I had it in a place where I could
change it easier?  All I want is to be able to drive it home.
