Re: EngineQuestion

Mark:

That Triumph engine, according to a British car specialist I once had to
visit so often, is actually a 1930's design tractor motor that was only
slightly modified for use in Triumphs.

Only you can decide if it is worth it to you. Until recently, I had a 1972
Triumph GT6 Mk III that I wanted to restore. The 2 litre inline 6 in it
only made 90 BHP and it had that foolish "rubber donut" independent rear
suspension, few creature comforts and it sat so low that I looked up to
Harley riders when I drove it.

Part of me wanted to restore this "entusiast car" as one British Car
publication refered to them for it's unique character and rareity.

But, part of me wanted to buy a Miata and forget those PIA British cars.
The Miata is everything an MG wanted to be with Japanese reliability. Hell,
a 4 cyl Miata made almost twice the HP of the Triumph 6, had a better
suspension, total creature comforts and the aftermarket is filled with
stuff to customize the Miata.

But, those British sports cars had their place in history.

Like they say, the choice is yours. But personally, there is probably
nothing that isn't worth rebuilding, even a Yugo (since you'd have the only
one still in existence after twenty years). If that were true, why do all
these farmers at the antique tractor/IH get togethers go to all the trouble
to rebuild those old tractors that aren't being used anymore?
