re: Lost in LA - found a horn button
Tony,
Thanks for the hunting tips in Anaheim. I found time to go by Ardmore on
Katella and Ecology on Imperial Hwy. Ardmore had a late 50's S model
(ecology had nothing IH) at the bottom of a stack of cars. It had two
cars on top of it and the springs weren't even compressed all the way!
It actually had quite a few parts to give yet, though it looked like it
was lined up for the crusher. The drivetrain was all there, including
the rear. It had a good hood and doors, guage cluster and usable fenders
and some trim (including good 'international' script). I thought the guy
was a bit pricey, he wanted $75 just for the oil bath air cleaner. I
pulled off the horn button, but for the life of me I can't figure out
how to get it off cleanly. I ended up smashing the steering wheel to get
it out without breaking the button, but still snapped off the retainers
(don't worry, the steering wheel wasn't a good one). So, now I have a
triple diamond button and a IH button to use, depending on my mood.
After snapping the horn button off an old L (they use the same type of
retainer), I thought I had it figured out - twist and pull, but I guess
not. I could not get that bugger out without forcing it. Does anyone
else have any insight into how to free the horn button off these old
pickups? Now I just have to fab some retainers for my truck.
