More on towing...

     IH everyone,

I've got two more digest to go before I'm caught up, but, I thought
I'd jump in with a trailering experience. About 3 months ago, I
     bought a '74 Travelall 2wd 392/727 from a guy about 70 miles north of
my place in Tucson, Arizona. I drove up there with my '75 Travelall
4wd 392/727 with a #2500lb flatbed trailer. No the trailer weighed
#2500! So with t'all and trailer it's about 8k# and my T'all is about
6400# from the scales last year. Anyway, the trailer would start to
sway at any speed greater than about 50 mph. The BODY on the trailer
was tilting side to side. I think that if I chained down the body AND
the frame, instead of just the frame it may have been OK. I know the
tongue was a bit light, but it was terrible! I went about 40mph on
the way back it was smooth. Got home, unloaded it and that was that.

I just hope that you all have some cool setup that allows you to
tow #8000 without incident, it sounds like you're really pushing the
     limits.

The biggest differences between a 3/4T and a 1/2T is the addition
of a full-floating rear axle, and larger brake drums. The problem
with IHs towing stuff is not power to start, it's having to STOP!

Good luck, everyone. I'd be hard pressed to do it again. I was
combined weight of about #15K with all the tools and an extra set of
tires (for the trailered t'all), etc.
