HOW TO: Lock tumbler removal
Just some info I thought might be useful. Someone recently was
wondering how to get a key that would work all the locks in their truck.
There are a few solutions, but one is to get 3 tumblers with a matching
key from one of our vendors and replace the ones on the truck; one for
each door & one for the rear lift gate. For the T-Handle (hint hint
screw size??) there is a small pin hole on the shaft of the handle.
Using a paperclip, insert the end of the paperclip into the pin hole
while inserting the key partway into the lock. By jiggling the whole
apparatus, the lock cylinder should slide out. It will help to
liberally lube the lock beforehand, and depending on age/condition will
take various amounts of effort. The pin acts as a retaining pin on the
cylinder. Simply replace the cylinder with the new one. This will cut
down on the number of keys in your pocket. Hope this helps.
