I still don't see how a turbo with its twists & turns can be lower back
pressure. Really counter-intuitive.
Does the engine "want" some back pressure?? That may be true.
Just having the headers open may not be the best. It may not be obvious
but considerable back pressure can be generated depending on how you exit
the pipe. Just leaving the headers open may not be the best. The
problem is the same as everything else. It's all complicated.
