Mike,

When you do the volumne test just pump for 15 seconds, a minute may 
overheat your starter.  Somewhere in the IHC shop manual (or any other of 
the same size & era) will be a spec for how much gas it will pump in x 
seconds.  I don't remember what the amount should be.
