Bad Idle
Hello. I have a 79 Scout II 345 with a 4bbl carb that suddenly developed a bad to almost no idle when warm. It runs fine in the mid range
and hiway speeds. Suspecting a vacuum leak there were no visible lines broken or fallen off, so I removed every vacuum line from the
carb base and capped them all off temporaily and still no idle. I now suspect clogged low speed jets, and tried sucking the dirt through
them by revving the engine and while snapping the throttle closed applying a rag over the carb to create massive vacuum. This trick has
worked for me in the past on other vehicles, but it did not work this time. Do I need to rebuild/replace the carb? any suggestions on an
economical replacement such as a drop in 2bbl? Thanks so much. - Jim Lidberg
