Real Life Bumper Test

Here is a testimonial:
For all thoes wondering how my Fleckerazation of a bumper would hold up in
an accident....wonder no more.
Monday night after the trail ride I was headinh home from airing up at the
gas station

....(I think I fried the electric switch thar engages the compressor clutch
as I had it clip leaded to the battery and got careless and let the exposed
end touch ground...poof it doesnt engage anymore. Any one know if this is
fixable...Help John L.??)

I was coming accross the bridge of the skycomish? river...anyway the one
that you cross heading from downtown Monroe the the roundup and stoped
right after crossing the bridge to let a person three cars ahead of me turn
left. I was watching the rearview and saw the same lady that was waving at
my dog last stoplight coming full boar. So I relaxed and waited as the
6500-7000 pound Chevy 6.2 diesel Silverado Surbaban started skidding toward
me.(I couldnt drive to the shoulder as it had guard rail). WHAM she hit the
driverside rear part of the bumper at about 35 mph. I bounced 3-6 feet and
my dog flew out the back. He suffered some abrasions on his paw after
landing and being drug (I know noy to leash him in the truck anymore). I
just went limber just like a motorcycle spill. I learned at an early age to
relax so you dont break bones and hurt muscles.

Well I got out and looked...hehee
I said Lady you scratched my bumper. Actuallyb left a small dent the size
of a dime and still kept the 150 pounds of air inside. No punctures at all,
no bends or distortion. That proves my welds and fabrication ids sound as
well as the strength of the scout fram rails.

Oh and the surburban....The bumper got pushed back into the Grill and front
fender. About $1000 damage. Sorry I was a little shakey or I would have
snaped a few pics.

Needless to say I was a nice guy and settled on the roadside to help her
avoide the increase in insurance.

Well there you have it proof positive of the 3/16 4x6 box tube bumper
strength. I would assume that 4x4 and 3x5 box tube is just as tough.

Anyone for a Fleckarized Surbaban proof bumper??
