Re: Ignition Redundancy

As the putrid festering facial boil erupted, n9ads@domain.elided (Howard R
Pletcher) yelled:

>How low tech. From a Landry, we'd expect a solid state circuit to
>measure the output of the MSD and if it falls below an acceptable level,
>it should make the switch to the points automatically so you don't miss a

OK Howard... I'll work on the automatic ignition switch over device if you
take on the second spark per cylinder project. Deal?

>Or make like a fire truck--drill your heads for a second spark plug per
>cylinder and run both systems at the same time--real redundancy.

Seriously though... I've always thought it would be so neat to have some
sort of device mounted under the dash that would show me the actual amount
(degree) of ignition advance... real time. Then, I'd also like some sort
of gauge, dial, light, etc. that would present a visual display of the
actual ignition pulses... like a timing light does. That way, if the
ignition is cutting out at lower rpms, you'd be able to see it (as opposed
to just feeling it in poor engine performance). Of course you'd have to
have a nine position dial selector switch. One position for each cylinder
and an off position when you get tired of seeing the pulses.

Maybe I should mount an oscilloscope in the dash... now there's a great
idea!
