Blanca Peak Trail Report
Just returned from Blanca Peak today. It was previously closed due to
rock slides above Jaws 3. Some 4WD Clubs did some roadbuilding and reopened
it. Word is that the trail is harder then ever.
This was the hardest trail I've been on todate. Definitely harder then most
of the Rubicon. I ran 12 psi in my BFG's which seemed to work good. With
good spotters I was able to get over all the obstacles with little trouble.
Jaws 1 turned out to be the most difficult for most of my club. I got
high-centered but having F&R lockers allowed me to back off and pick
another line. Jaws 3 has been half filled in with rocks (no doubt by
J**pers) and none of my group used the go-around.
The rockslides are a little off camber and a tall T*yota with 36's had to
have a few guys hang on the high side. The area around Como Lake is
reasonably dry. Fishing is excellent.
I would say a Scout with 4 inches of lift, one locker (or F&R pwrlock), and
low gears can handle this trail. For safety a spotter is a must.
Happy Trails,
Darrel Kline
