I doubt if IH etched anything on the gears--Dana would have done that. 
Looking at a Dana 20 gear I have, it has 300-111 etched on it and I've
never before heard that this is a consistent identifier.  I know that the
difference is in the teeth on the back side of the gear, not the outer
teeth. but I don't have a 300 gear to tell you the exact difference.  I
know the shape of these teeth is quite a bit different and I think there
may even be a different number of them.  Ask you question again in a
couple weeks when the guys get back from the RMIHR and NWBRU and I'd
expect Tom M or some of the others who've recently made changes will know
the differences.
