Re: Travelall Shocks Update

Guys:

In this debate about the shocks for the 1010 Travelall:

I think your overlooking one unique possiblity. If you have shocks now,
take them off. Measure the length from center of the mounting point at
each end that your shock sits at when the vehicle is "normal" or ride
height. Note the type of connector at each end - pin or bolt. Measure
the shocks at full extension. Measure them at full compression.

Armed with these measurements, most 4X4 shops can look up an appropriate
model for you from most of the major manufacturers. This is how they do
it for modified trucks except, instead of measuring the shock's
compression and rebound length, you measure it on the vehicle itself at
full compression and full drop, which is harder.

If your local shops are not "up on this", I'm sure that if you go to a
manufacturer's web site and provide the information via email, they'll
give you a model to consider. Remember to tell them it's a T-all for
reference as to which shock line they'll want to look in - as in heavy
duty truck or off road.

Half the problem you're having isn't that the shock is so special, it's
that T-alls just aren't listed due to their age and scarcity and we
aren't a huge organized body of restorers like the Mustang folks. Shocks
with bolt connections at each end, are not uncommon by any stretch.

Let us know how it goes.
