Weird things on my dash!
OK so something weird happened to me on the way back from Phoenix this
morning. Preface:
I went to Phoenix yesterday about 1PM to go see YES, and Alan
Parsons Project Live at 8PM. It wasn't that good of a show, so don't
spend the $45 ea. like I did, it's not worth more than $25ea.
Anyway it was about 105 out and high humidity, read HOTTER THAN H*LL.
So it was like 75% humidity and I HAD to have the AC on. Read: Heat
motor twice as hot as the flames of H*LL! So it was pinging really
bad. Stopped about 40 mi. out to get higher octane gas. Remember I
backed my timing off to like 3.5 BTDC from the 11 or so that ran great
some weeks back? Now it's pinging! Anyway, I fill the top off with
92 on top of the 87 and it stops pinging, mostly. So it's really hot
and I arrive in Phoenix and shut the motor off and I can hear the
pressure bleeding off in the radiator overflow tank and that's ok it's
only a 7lb cap. I know, I do it because I'd rather it leak at the cap
that blow a hose! So I come back about 1 hour later, trucks cooled
off (moderately from a zillion to 110F) and there is a huge puddle of
something that on my finger looks like oil. Oil in the truck is
topped off, but I see drops off the springs under the PS pump. PS
fluid is fine. hmm. That's weird thing number one.
Weird thing number two: With the motor as hot as it was, I drove back
this morning around 8AM, and it was running OK, but yesterday and
today I notice extraordinarily low oil pressure. Anyway, it's not
clicking, so I keep going. I have a case of sae40 just in
case, though. Now about the same time I notice the WICKED low oil
pressure I notice the Transfer Case light flickering! Doesn't appear
to be rhythmic, purely random. Now, it happened this morning and I'm
dressed for work so I have yet to get under the truck, but I'm on my
way home pretty soon so I'll check it out. Now do y'all think it's
something dumb like a pinched wire to ground making the TC light
flicker? OR is it something really cool, like the brake light? Did IH
use the TC light to do more than one thing, like warn you of low oil
pressure? Howard could this actually be the case? WOW the
possibilities!
OK, off to straighten my bumper so I can take first place at the
RMIHR.
