Dan,
If your stock choke knob is removable like the other IH dash knobs (a set
screw in the knob base), then replacement of the inner wire cable is a
snap. However, because the outer cable sleeve is probably too short also,
most likely you will need to replace the entire choke cable assembly. New
cable assemblies are available at almost any good auto parts store for
$10.00 or under. I think I bought mine through Summit when I ordered my
Edelbrock carburetor for under $4.00. I bought one to add to my 76
Traveler which never had a manual choke before. Like Tom M., I simply cut
off the cheesy choke knob supplied with the replacement cable assembly and
stuck an IH one on. All you need do is drill a little hole in the choke
cable shaft using the knob as a template guide. The IH choke knob will
then slip on the shaft and the set screw will hold it in place. Once
you're done, you can't tell it from the original. It's really easy to do.
A little more fun... You will also need to fabricate (or move the old one)
a bracket to hold the choke cable outer sleeve near the right side of the
carburetor where the choke control is. Then you just figure out a simple
way to attach the choke cable wire to the Holley's choke control and you're
all set. A nice weekend afternoon project for you is all! <grin>
Have fun,
John
