garages...bad idling, etc.
HA!!! Only ten inches of water? We really had it rough. After being
beaten awake, we'd work non-stop at the BOTTOM of a sewage canal fixing our
cars, with only the bleeding stumps of our fingers to use as tools. We
couldn't afford the parking tickets, so we'd have to keep the cars moving
while being dragged underneath. after a full day's 100 hours work, we'd be
beaten to sleep...
(sorry..) :)
I had a similar problem with the Scout dropping out of idle in the first 15
minutes of driving. This usually occurred on damp or wet days. I finally
realized it was a condensation problem that builds up in (I assume) the
intake manifold, carburetor and heads, and completely eliminated it by
utilizing gasoline antifreeze AND (more importantly) a manually operated
butterfly valve on the intake air cleaner housing.
Normally that valve is vacuum-actuated by a heat-sensitive switch on the
carburetor. I always found this to be unreliable on my Scouts, and decided
to mount an extra electric vacuum valve (scored when i removed the
deceleration module after switching to points) and ran a switch to the dash
to control it. Now, whenever it seems to be suffering from condensation,
extra cold air, etc, I simply switch the valve on and it sends heated air
from the heatstove over the right-hand exhaust manifold and usually KILLS
my problems in a few minutes...
