Tech Tip - CHEAP solution to solo bleeding of your brakes.
IH all,
There is a cheap easy solution to self bleeding of your brakes. Go down
to your hardware store and by one of those schrader (sp?) valves (under
a $1), the type that mount in a tank for filling with air. Next go out
to your parts truck and get the master cylinder top off of it. Cut the
center out of the gasket, then drill a hole in the top, and seal, JB
weld, or weld the schrader valve to the top. Next just hook up a air
line to an air source (like your tire (30+ psi)) and the schrader valve.
You could use the self locking tire inflator clips. All you have to do
now is open your brake bleed valves like you normally would to bleed
them and the air will force the fluid thru. One thing to make sure of
is that you do not drain the master cylinder during your bleeding,
otherwise you will have to start all over again. Just top it off after
each wheel is bled. With the schrader valve, you can vent the air out
before you remove the cap to refill. When done, just put your original
master cylinder cap back on.
