York Compressor Part Source
Gerardo N. Saldana,
I was searching through some old IHC Digest archives and came across the big
discussion we were having about converting York A/C compressors to on board
air compressors. In those discussions you mentioned a place called Therold
Industries in Holtville, CA where you'd purchased some supplies. Before I
spend money calling them long distance, do you know if this place sells actual
replacement parts for York compressors, or just industrial hardware?
Unfortunately the magnetic clutch bearing on my old wrecking yard sourced York
compressor bit the dust and I'm searching for a replacement source. I noticed
strange noises emanating from the clutch bearing over the last month and it
progressively got worse to where the internal friction was dragging the pump
around slowly even when the clutch wasn't engaged. So yesterday I pulled the
compressor off and removed the clutch... the bearing feels like it's totally
ground up inside. Replacement of the bearing is simple with a press, but
local auto parts stores I've contacted tell me I have to buy the entire
rebuilt clutch assembly for around $150.00 with exchange.
I could buy another cheap York compressor from a wrecking yard, but I'd rather
have a new bearing that I know the condition of... especially since the
compressor I have is in otherwise perfect condition.
Anyone have any other sources I might try?
Thanks a million,
John
