>Did the starter from the auto transmission vehicle have one of those 1/4"
spacers between the starter and the bellhousing? If so, your bendix gear
may not be getting enough "throw" to engage the ring gear teeth on the
flywheel. How did the teeth on the ring rear look on the flywheel?
Combination of worn teeth and a spacer could lead to no engagement.

>You can inspect for your bendix gear to ring gear clearance by taking off
the dust cover from the front of the transmission and looking at the bendix
to ring gear interface. Don't know what it should be, but someone on the
list probably can tell you.

>Hook up your remote start switch engage the soloniod when you are down
there to see if the bendix is moving out.

>When I changed from the Borg Warner auto to the TF727 I had the other
problem. My starter was dragging on the ring gear. Had to add the spacer.

>Which starter did you use? There may be a difference in the length of the
bendix from the auto vehicle and the manual transmission vehicle. There
again, I don't have the answer is there is any difference.
