Oil Change?
First of all.. congrats to Garry for what would seem to be an absolutely
fantastic find!
----------
Subject: old tough iron
..... Packed in the back of the wrecking yard was a very ratty looking
Traveler,...looked as though it had been used for artillery practice..
...checked the oil and it showed full. Decided to drain it, nothing
came out. Poured in a gallon of kerosene, let it sit for a hour, poked
my jack-knife up into the drain hole to get the sludge moving and let
this whole mess drain for awhile. Fresh oil........2 seconds later
the old wreck was sitting in my yard purring like a kitten.
Amazing, absolutely amazing!
Regards, Garry

The talk about oil got me thinking about my situation, and I want to bounce
off you all.
I drove my Grandfathers's '58 A102 back from NE (to MN, about 600 miles) back
in October.
I did not change the oil before I left, since he said he had it done fairly
recently, and he only
drove it once every week or so (if that). Anyway - he said it usually used
some oil, and if it
was low I would probably want to add what it needed, and save one quart for
some of that
CD2 oil plug additive stuff. Not one to question my Grandfather's judgement
in front of him
(especially since he was giving me his prize and joy), I did as he said, and
added the CD2.
Now, after being home a couple of months, and driving the truck a few times a
week to and from work,
I have found out a few things. Yes, it uses oil. Not quite sure where it
goes yet though. Very little smoke..
no visiable leaks.. no puddles on the floor... I figure it only goes when I'm
on the road....
Anyway.. to the Question...
I've also noticed that a creamy white sludge type of stuff has developed in
the oil. I find it on
the end of the dip stick and quite a bit up on the oil cap. Is this the CD2
stuff acting up? Is
is good/bad? I've been putting off an oil change.. I add a new quart a week
anyway. But now I'm
starting to think I should clean this stuff out as soon as I can. Garry
mentioned using Kerosene
to clean out sludge.. is this a standard method?
THANKS! -Jeffrey :-)
