Re: Door Seals without the top

IH all,

In response to the question as to the purpose of the door seals with the
top off. While I was redoing my interior I had removed the door seals
for a couple of weeks. I was also using the scout as a daily driver. I
found that the door would close too far in. You would have to pull the
door out from the outside, or lay your shoulder into it from the inside
- (not real popular with the wife) to get the door handles to release
the striker bolt/plate. It seems that the gaskets prevent the door from
closing too far in on the striker plate. I agree that a set of summer
(top off) seals and a set of winter (top on) seals is the way to go.
For the summer seals, you could just use universal weather stripping
found in JC Whitney, since you wouldn't have the 90 deg corner to worry
about. If your hatch is not shutting with the seal in, I think you
might have an adjustment problem ( I know, master of the obvious <bg>).

Hope this helps
