Devin,
Yeah, I have something similar in mind.. *currently* not as radical, but
close..
Take my stock '72 (304v8, 3spd, Dan20, 3.73) and lift it ~5", swap a '44
front end in, with 3.73s still. Change out the 3:1 3spd for a close T19 4:1
1st, and twin stick the Dana 20, run 33" tires.
This gives me a 30:1 (yuck) crawl (better than stock, even after factoring
the 33s), a 304V8, and with the 33s/3.73 gears, 80mph = 3000rpm. 100mph or
so at redline.
This is the low-buck piece of it all anyhow.. (don't forget Lock-rites f/r)
Later plans would call for either a Dana 300 w/ 4:1 gears ($1300!) to make
60:1, or a really creative Dana 18 geared D20, with a divorced NP205 behind
it (2:1, 2.46:1, or ~5:1 for 75:1 low)
the close T19 makes things great on the street.. 3.73 w/ 33s are great on
the highway, I just need to get the dough to drop in the 4:1 Dana 300, and I
should be sititng pretty good.. with only "minor" mods that don't require a
huge mound of cash.
Of course.. swap out my perfectly good 63k mile 304V8 for a fuel injected,
Paxton supercharged 392 and things could get real fun real quick. (also add
the 4:1 Dana 300, maybe the divorced' NP205 anyhow, and a Dana 60 outback!)
*smile*
I like the idea of cruising at 80mph @ 3000rpm.. hopefully the legislature
won't decide to put a number on our daytime speed limit in 2 years...

BTW, BOTH of my Scouts will have FULL roll cages.. 6point at least, maybe 8
point.. see, I'm not *entirely* insane..
